Southern Sweet Tea

Also known as sweet tea in the southern states. My husband can never get enough of this light brown tea with a little sugar added. The healthier way to drink this is of course unsweetened but then it would not be called Southern Sweet Tea.

  • 2 Cups Ice You can add more for faster cooling

Instructions

  • Gather your ingredients
  • Fill a medium pot with water and place on the stove
  • Turn burner to high heat bring the water to a boil

  • Add the tea bags to the pot and set the timer for 3 minutes
  • After 3 minutes remove the bags from the pot- do not squeeze them or you will get bitter tea
  • Add the sweetner and stir until dissolved
  • Place the pot a clean sink filled with cold water only half the height of your pot
  • Add ice cubes to the water to cool the tea faster
  • When the tea is cool to the touch you can add the vanilla extract
  • Using a large mouth funnel pour the tea into a mason jar or pitcher
  • Only use mason jars or pitchers that can handle high temps. Do not use cold jars as extreme temperature swings hot to cold or cold to hot can cause the glass to shatter.
  • Once the tea is cool, move it to the refrigerator within 2 hours
