Authentic German Style Mustard

Ingredients
  

  • 9.25 Oz White Wine Vinegar
  • 3.3 Oz Water
  • 2/3 Cup Yellow Mustard Seed
  • 2/3 Cup Black Mustard Seed
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 3 Tsp Salt
  • 1/2 Tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Turmeric Powder

Instructions
 

  • Add the 9.25 ounces of white wine vinegar to a pot
  • Bring the vinegar to a boil over low heat
  • Add the room temperature water and wait for it to cool down
  • Grind the mustard seeds in a coffee grinder partially leaving some whole for a more rustic consistency
  • Stir the ground mustard seeds, the spices, sugar, and salt togethrer
  • Then when the vinegar and water is room temp add it to the mustard mixture
  • It should be a loose consistency similar to pancake batter if it is too thick add more water
  • Place in the fridge and let sit for at least 3 days

Yields approximately 16 ounces of mustard. You can half or quarter the recipe for 8 ounces or 4 ounces

4.6 Ounces of White Wine Vinegar
1.7 Ounces of WaterΒ 
For a 4 Oz. Yield
1/4 Cup of combined Mustard Seed
2.3 Ounces of White Wine Vinegar
1 and 3/4 Tablespoons of Water
Β This mustard can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 months or in the freezer for 1 year.
This mustard is recipe is best on hot dogs, sausages, kielbasa etc...
Variations: Add other spices such as smoked paprika, or tarragon
To Make a Honey Mustard: Add 3 Tbs of honey -Best served with pretzels or other bread like snacks
To make a sweet Heat Add 3 Tbs Honey and 1/4 Tsp of ground Chipotle and 1/2 Tsp of Chili pwder
