Make the syrup at least 3 hours before you intend to use it. It can be made a even a day ahead time and stored in the refrigerator.
In a sauce pan whisk together the water, brown sugar, and spices
Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer uncovered for at least 5 minutes
Let it cool for no more than two hours for food safety reasons. Add the syrup to a Mason Jar and place in the refrigerator.
The Apple Rose
Wash an apple
Peel the apple all around without stopping so that you have a long strip.
Lay the apple on a flat surface and roll it up. Fan out the sides like a rose
If you are not using immediately place the roses in a mixture of lemon and water to keep them from browning.
The Cocktail
In your chilled cocktail shaker filled with ice add the bourbon, cider, lemon juice, and simple syrup.
Shake and pour into a glass of your choice we poured into both a Coupe and a Highball glass and both look great
